Trinidad Youth Council Press Release TYC calls for the removal of Minister of Sports Mr. Anil Roberts On the 27th of June 2014, the Minister of Sport Mr. Anil Roberts summoned both the tutors and students of all the Life Sport Programmes to assemble at the Hasley Crawford Stadium, under the impressions that the students would be addressed by the Minister, however, this was not so. They were instead greeted not by the Minister but a music truck, and were then informed that they were to journey from the Hasely Crawford Stadium to the front of the Parliament to show solidarity for the line Minister so as to ensure he secures his Ministerial portfolio. They were made to understand that if the Minister was to lose his position the programme would be shut down. The Trinidad Youth Council would like to express our disgust and displeasure for this blatant abuse of power, abuse of the nation’s youth, and indirect corruption as state funds were used mobilise for his personal interest. It was an abominable that he perpetrated on youths of the Life Sport Program. It is our opinion that this level of abuse that was displayed by Minister Mr. Anil Roberts is unacceptable. With these things in mind we are calling for the removal of Mr. Anil Roberts as Minister of Sport. This display by the Minister is not one of integrity, nor does it depict the high standard to which the youth of this nation should aspire, the Minister of Sport should be a model leader that our young athletes should be able to emulate, and as it stands he has not shown these qualities or charactertists, and as young people we are demanding a higher standards from our leaders and principle in their dealings so as to be examples for the nation’s youth. trinidadyouthcouncil.org/ trinidadyouthcouncil.org
