I almost gave away, or threw away, a bunch of odd bits of wool but then I remembered about this while watching a sparrow foraging in the yard. It may be a little early yet, but birds love bits of wool, fabric, dryer lint etc. for weaving into their nests so I dug all the dryer lint out of the waste basket in the laundry room and took a small fraction of my wool, cut some random pieces of all sizes (just basically attacked the wad of wool with scissors, rather than pull it out and do one strand at a time) and packed it into an old suet bird feeder. And now we wait.
