I almost got taken by a scammer yesterday so I wanted to give you all a heads up...beware! The caller ID was a Park City number so that made it even more believable... Guy (with a significant accent) calls asking for the person who handles our utility bills...its me so I continue with the call. He asked if I received the order that was sent out and I have no clue what hes talking about (thinking maybe the electric company ordered some vacuums from us!) but finally come to the conclusion that its an order to disconnect our electric...within the next 45 minutes to an hour because our account is delinquent...and of course, this is late in the day...only an hour and a half until closing! Oh my gosh! I say, Seriously? I had no idea...:! Im a little freaked out (things do slip between the cracks occasionally but this was just weird...). So I put him on hold, go to my office and continue the call with him. I asked if I needed to make a payment over the phone and he, very professionally, explains hes not authorized to accept payment but that he would transfer me to customer service. While Im on hold, I quickly look up our account online, see that we are current (whew!) and realize this is a scam! Another guy (actually sounded a lot like the first one) gets on the phone and begins the process of accepting my payment over the phone. I tell him that I think this is a scam, our account it current, blah, blah, blah! He continues to insist that our account is delinquent and our services are about to be disconnected. I ask for his phone number and tell him I need to look into it further...and Ill call back. Of course, a quick Google search reveals my suspicions are right on! SCAM! Makes me sick to think I almost fell for this!!!
