I am also standing for a position on the Lakes DHB. In the lates 90s, I was lucky enough to be granted a Ministry of Health Scholarship to study towards a NZ Diploma in Business. As a Health Scholar, this gave me an insight into reading a huge amount of information on the NZ Health System, the health of our people and also the challenges both for individuals and our healthcare system to ensure we were well looked after, ensuring Healthy Families and Communities. Our district is changing in demographics. Our Health System is challenged by cultural diversity. Does the hospital system operate as culturally sensitive to our population that accommodates more than 60 ethnicities. I would like to engage at board level to ensure that it is. The difference I can bring to the table is 20 years of voluntary community work in the migrant and ethnic communities. I understand the different cultures, I know the issues, we need a voice. I can do that...because I understand.
