I am always leery of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (Osho) because westerners (and now some Indians in modern India) believe his philosophy to be some hidden eastern mysticism when in fact it deeply comes out of western philosophy packaged as exotic eastern, but that does not mean his writings and lectures (when it did talk) did not have some insights and validity. Remember in most (not all) classic eastern philosophies the goal is getting rid of self. Self having value for its own sake is a western idea which Osho capitalized on for a wealthy (often guilt filled) western audience. Bhagwans influence (which can be seen in this passage) was more Friedrich Nietzsches Übermensch (superman) who disdained and ignored social and moral obligations as well as Nikos Kazantzakis Zorba the Greek who was free from social constraints. In many ways Oshos philosophy is far more akin to Ayn Rands selfish philosophy than the Bhagavad Gita or any of the Eastern philosophies that also spoke of social obligations and responsibilities (dharma) Note: as always the gender pronoun in this case should be inclusive of all genders
