I am always struck with Amos 8:11-12 every time I read this - TopicsExpress

I am always struck with Amos 8:11-12 every time I read this chapter: Behold, days are coming, declares the LORD GOD, when I will send a famine on the land. Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, but rather for hearing the words of the LORD. People will stagger from sea to sea and from the north even to the east; they will go to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, but they will not find it. This was a prophecy aimed directly at the nation of Israel, and is ongoing today as I type this, but it is much too obvious to not see this happening in our nation today as well. The problem is that most do not realize that a famine is occurring. This is not meant to be a point of pride or patting myself on the back by any means as it is only by the grace and gifting of God that I am able to teach and preach His Word, but one of the common comments that I receive when people discover our church is I didnt know churches like this existed anymore. They go on to explain they mean a church that clearly teaches and preaches the Bible verse-by-verse, and only the Bible; they didnt know they were experiencing a famine of the Word of God until they came. It is a sad state of affairs indeed.
