I am amazed at how seemingly intelligent people live in denial of their racist proclivities. It is Biblical wisdom that “from the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh.” As Americans we bear the burden to uphold our constitution. As such, there is an application component in the 14th Amendment that demands equal protection for All. Moreover, it is perplexing to read commentary that defies justice and attempts to rational subjective racial animus. Not only is it heart breaking, but counterproductive as well. The reality of these types of scenarios is the fact that a large number racist do not realize their mindset is discriminatory. Ironically, many are very good hearted people who have been indoctrinated from childhood, with a false sense of privilege and superiority. Events such as Black College Reunion and Trayvon Martin bring racial disparities and create polarizing modern day dilemmas on prejudices and injustice. As President of BCR Events, I have a vested interest in deciding to bring young African American tourist to Daytona Beach knowing we have people like Todd Snipes employed by us to maintain public safety, not act on his manifested bias. Consider the challenges of dealing with youthful behavior, it only adds fuel to the fire to have law enforcement officers that look at Black people with distain. I’m sure his fellow constituents feel he is not a bad guy and he very well may not be “ALL bad”, but he is bad enough not to deserve a place on tax payers payroll---considering many of them are in fact Black. What is equally not a shock to me is the 547 people who have signed on to a Facebook page “Support Todd Snipes. It is incumbered upon us to collectively voice our displeasure to their endorsement of his abhorrent behavior. Just as they have no problem with complaints about Black tourist---some legit, but most manufactured.
