I am an easy going, live and let live person - to the point that that is practical. I am also a realist. And because I am a realist, I believe in the right to bear arms (I also believe in responsible ownership). It is not guns that are the problem in our society, it is our society itself. It is the violent undercurrent that runs through our culture. Changing people to be more respectful, empathetic, compassionate, responsible, etc. is not something that can be legislated. Its a change that has to come from within families and communities. Until that change comes, and we dont have so many crazies, the realist in me - the protector in me who loves my family and friends - will be compelled to continue to carry around a means to defend myself or my loved ones, or anybody really, from that worse case scenario that I hope to never actually encounter.
