I am asked a lot by people what can I do to improve my photography and besides the obvious answers of knowing about exposure, composition, reading your camera manual, there is one thing that everybody can do to make their photos more dramatic; get good light. Light is one of the most important things in a photograph and it can make or break a photo. Its why so many of us photographers keep such ungodly hours. Personally, for myself, I prefer morning light over evening light. The air is much more pure with less pollution and of course you dont have to deal with people either when shooting. Its quiet a lot of the time when I am out with my camera and its very relaxing. The downside? Waking up at 3am & earlier can be tough at times but in the end its really worth it. This image was photographed at Red Rocks Park in Denver. Its an area I have spent a great deal of time at this year and it has given me some wonderful images. Here, the sunrise was reflecting against the western sky as the light began to paint the rocks and foothills. I loved the way the color was playing out in the scene, really warm light and how the colors created a layered look & feel. Just one of those scenes which caught my eye. ----John.
