I am asking everyone to share my letter to the Republican Party - TopicsExpress

I am asking everyone to share my letter to the Republican Party Committee to their page. I am asking this due to the fact there are some of the party members that have not given all of their contact information for me to get this letter out to them before Saturday. To The Republican Party Committee, My name is Stacee Archuleta-Kent and I am writing this letter of recommendation of Chief Kevin Potter to take the place of the late Sheriff Lynn Yeates position as Sheriff. My recommendation is based on my personal experience as an employee of 16 ½ years, deputy, wife of Search and Rescue volunteer and citizen of Box Elder County. I would like to share with you why I feel that Chief Deputy and Interim Sheriff Kevin Potter would be the appropriate and best choice for not only the sheriffs office but for the citizens of Box Elder County. Kevin Potter not only has always been a hard worker in our department but has been a mentor to all of us. Kevin Potter has an array of experience with the Sheriffs Department in many fields. He has worked in the field of Corrections, Deputy, a Detective, a Sergeant and the Chief Deputy. I have had the opportunity to know and/or work with Kevin Potter while he worked as a Deputy, Detective, Sergeant and Chief Deputy. Kevin was and has always been active in community policing Box Elder County. By having the experience in all these positions this has allowed those in the community and department to go to him, ask questions and express their concerns. Kevin not only listens but will offer his advice or knowledge to help us be a better officer. If Kevin sees something that needs to be addressed, although very busy in other duties he will take the time and discuss it with you. At any time when speaking with Kevin he shows the utmost respect and treats us as an equal. This does not mean he is a push over and if there is a problem then it is addressed with tact, respect and he does not allow emotions to get in the way of doing the job that needs to be done. During the change of different positions, status and duties, Kevin has never allowed it to change the integrity of who Kevin Potter is. These positions have given Kevin firsthand knowledge, experience and the ability to understand what the community as well as his employees need and go through on a daily basis. I believe this is what has made him be the great leader and mentor in our department. He has always been willing to work side by side with all of us. Not letting his positions interfere with getting out and working in the community or with the officers. In 2004 I had firsthand experience of Chief Kevin Potters leadership. This is when my position was moved into a patrol deputy position. I was transitioning from the corrections position in law enforcement and he had become a Sergeant. He was my first Sergeant in the patrol division. During this time, his position of Sergeant did not change his beliefs of continuing the daily duties that any patrolman does, to include him. His title changed but he did not and continued to work side by side with us. He was my Sergeant until he changed positions and became Chief Deputy. Again, his title changed but his beliefs of continuing daily duties did not with all his positions he held but just added more to his list of daily duties. I know there have been times while he as a Chief Deputy has had to do office work and while Ive been working weve been short handed in the field and Ive needed to handle a case that took me out west (or any other type of situation that requires more deputies) leaving the only other deputy on duty with me to tend to all of the other calls in the countys area, he has made it clear that he will come out of the office and cover calls until I have finished the call I am handling. This has always been impressive to me because it tells me several things about Kevin Potter which is: he cares enough about his officers and their safety that he will not put them at risk to be working by themselves, he considers working calls in the community is still one of his responsibilities no matter what his position is and he doesnt pass off responsibilities to other people but rather adapts to the situations that are presented no matter what it may be. He could easily call another Deputy or a Sergeant out from home and ask them to come into work but he doesnt because he is willing to come out and do the work that all the deputies do. Kevin Potter continuously is keeping up to date with case law decisions put out by the U.S. Supreme Court. After Kevin reads the case law he doesnt tuck it away for only his knowledge but then shares it with everyone in our department, requesting us to read the information so that we are well aware of decisions made. This information not only protects the officers but the community in which we deal with. He wants us to better understand the rights of everyone so that we are being the best we can be. Kevin takes pride and only wants what is best in Box Elder County Sheriffs Office, its employees and the community. And he makes that known in his daily interactions with the office, employees and community. I ask the Republican Party Committee to take this time during the Special Election to elect Chief Kevin Potter to replace the late Sheriff Lynn Yeates’ position as the Sheriff for Box Elder County and its office. In doing so, Box Elder County will gain an extreme asset and benefit in all aspects of the community. I have confidence that Kevin Potter is the only person best qualified to take this position as Sheriff and lead the department as it should be. It could be detrimental to the community of Box Elder County and the Sheriffs Office if he is not elected. Again, I recommend and ask you to elect Kevin Potter as Sheriff of Box Elder County. Thank you for your time on this matter, Stacee J. Archuleta-Kent
