I am at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta to deliver the Sankofa Lectures, which actually is a week long intensive course (whew! VERY intensive!) based on my text, The Politics of Jesus. Because we are exploring Jesus advocacy of systemic change in his Gospel pronouncements, the course probably should be renamed The Political Economy of Jesus. The students are an absolute joy: very sharp, diligent, dedicated, good natured, enthusiastic and great, fun folks. This is one of the most enjoyable teaching experiences of my career, right up there with the students in my two wonderful final lecture courses at NYTS! I will miss them when our time together ends on Friday. I feel honored and blessed to have this experience.
