I am conducting an informal survey on what people who made a donation to the ALS Association as part of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge intended their donation to go for. For those who made such donations, did you have a specific wish for how they money should be spent? For example, for patient services, advocacy, research to find treatments/cure, some combination, or didnt have a clear intent. For those who did not donate as part of the challenge, what do you think the intention (implicit, if not explicit) of most Ice Bucket Challenge donors was for how their money should be allocated? Finally, whether you participated in the Challenge or not, if you feel that most donors probably wanted their donation to primarily go towards research or you just feel this is what the priority should be, please consider signing the below petition to urge the ALS Association to dedicate most of these funds (now about $110 million) towards research. Please read some of the poignant reasons in support of this by those who have already signed (1,500 so far, most of whom have ALS or a close personal connection to it). There are other organizations focused solely on ALS research (and cutting edge research) that one can donate to if one wishes, though the ALS Association received the vast majority of the Ice Bucket money. At stake here is tens of millions of potential dollars for research....or not. Thank you, and please share this with others you think might be interested. change.org/p/als-association-must-dedicate-at-least-75-of-its-ice-bucket-challenge-donations-to-research
