I am deeply weary of people making statements such as according to the standards of the classical muhadditheen, Abu Hurayrah/ Abu Bakra/ was not qualified to be a narrator! According to the standards of the classical muhadditheen, do we even qualify as a narrator of any sort? Or a specialist in hadith of any sort? Or knowledgeable in the classical Islamic sciences, of any sort? Claiming that one doesnt *need* to be a specialist or qualified in the field of hadith in any way, in order to draw conclusive judgments from them (to the extent where a Divine Ordinance is rejected or written off as unnecessary or even false), is like someone going to WebMD and giving someone else a medical prognosis and claiming that one doesnt *need* to be qualified in the field of medicine in order to pass judgment. And lets face it: What is more important to be meticulous about, knowledge of the physical body, or of the spiritual heart (hint: only one of them actually matters in the Hereafter)? Lets not be arrogant and assume that we, modern day intellectuals and academics (or just wannabes thereof), know more about the sciences of Islam, which have been developed, preserved, and studied deeply over the last 1400 years by scholars whose sheer genius is staggering and unparallelled by anyone today. And by the way? Claiming that the Sahabah or muhadditheen were misogynistic & used their positions of authority to influence Islam in that direction, is offensive to the many, many Sahabiyaat and muhaddithaat who were well-versed in the Deen, who brooked no oppression from the men around them, and would never allow blatant injustice to be perpetrated in the name of Islam. These women were the epitome of empowerment; these women spearheaded Islamic knowledge and taught so many of those male scholars whom many speak ill of. If we claim to honour women in Islam, then let us honour the women who were directly responsible for teaching the rulings of Islam which we follow today - by remaining true to practicing the Deen as it was revealed to RasulAllah (sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam), and taught to and by the women around him, for the entire Muslim Ummah, for all time.
