I am devastated by the news that my beloved family doctor, David Perilman, passed away over the weekend. He had been in a serious bicycle crash the weekend before I left for Montana. He had been at Vandalia Medical Center since 1983, and I have been his patient throughout that time, except when my insurance company occasionally wouldnt let me. I will never find another doctor with his knowledge, compassion, humor, and political views! He has seen me through MS, divorces, breast cancer and sick kids. He is not only my doctor, but cares for a couple of my kids, grandkids, and when she lived here, my sister and her son. His was a real family practice in the truest meaning of the word. He always listened, never cut me off, and always took my complaints seriously. He knows me as well as anyone does. How will I replace that? I am also saddened because he was planning to retire in December 2015, and travel the world. I hated the idea of finding a new doctor, but I was delighted he was going to be doing something else he would love. I saw him a week or so before the accident, and we talked about his retirement. I asked where he planned to go first, and he thought a second, and said Spain, since it would be winter here. He also said he was looking forward to a life without multitasking. It grieves me that he will never get to do all the things he had planned. He was such a good person, and such a good doctor. I am just devastated to loose him like this. Here is a video of him from their practice web site. It is so his style of conversing and his spirit of giving to the community.
