I am going to copy and paste a status I posted last week, because - TopicsExpress

I am going to copy and paste a status I posted last week, because after talking to several other people, both in this area and the high desert area, who had the same experience, I believe it is possible that many of you faced the same scam. As far as finding resolve, I just continued to ignore it and did not end up having more issues as of yet, but I know several people who did pay, or had their accounts taken money out of that was never refunded. My apologies if this is not page appropriate, but I am certain I am not the only one. Need help with a business issue... A few months ago, a little boy with a speaking problem and large hearing aid in his ear, and his mom, showed up at the house Im living at in Yucaipa. They were trying to get short term subscriptions to the San Bernardino County Sun, as the kid who got the most was awarded a trip to Washington DC. For only $20, Id be another subscription in his book, and the papers would come for a short time, and then stop. At first I said it wasnt my house, and the mom interjected that it was ok because it was a personal subscription. Then I said we already get a paper, and then the mom reminded me while touching his head that its simply for the kids and his chance at a once in a life time trip. I figured why not give the kid $20, give him a chance and be done with it. Done with it I was not. Papers stopped showing up two weeks ago and two pieces of mail came in. One said I owed $3.87. I laughed and threw it away. Then I missed a few unknown number calls with no voicemail. I finally picked up today and she said oh good. She started by trying to get me to resubscribe which I politely declined. Then she said that was fine and the only remaining small piece of business was the matter of me owing them $3.87. I laughed again and told her how I got her paper in the first place and said I am not paying them any fees. She told me thats what everyone says, but her special offer to me today only was that she could drop my fee to $1.50, which she reminded me is a very small price. I agree. Very small price. Until you add it up with everyone elses. Esp those they didnt offer the $1.50 fee to who blindly just assumed they owed this money. I became less polite and more insistent that I am not paying any fees for something I did in an act of charity several months ago. Apparently now Im on record as having disputed these charges and sounds like I will be hearing from them again and possibly even received a call from them at my parents home number tonight asking for me, and when my sister asked to take a message they said no. I get it. I got suckered by a cute kid which pulled on my heartstrings and an annoying mom that got on my nerves. I pitied the kid, for two reasons. I also got to travel to DC at a young age and hoped he could gain that experience. From a business perspective tho, and I will grant that it is indeed a very small price, but Im looking for other thoughts and advice. I dont want any issues. The Sun probably doesnt either. Im looking at this ethically and on principle, and theyre coming from a different vantage point. Contractually I have no idea where I stand. I signed something. My mistake. Verbally as far as contracts go I was told $20 and done. Paper may have had fine print. Better Business Bureau? Sharing my story on multiple local pages that will be in an uproar that they may have been scammed too? What are my options, other than pulling the stick out of my butt about this? I spend more money than this on soda at fast food places fairly often. I still dont feel like, and dont know if I should consider backing down. Again, that is the copy/paste story. I believe she gave me a reason saying that while they were waiting to see if Id renew, they sent me a few grace papers and those were the ones I supposedly owed them for. I have a feeling theyre probably making at least some money off of dirty business practices, and maybe Im wrong and theyre doing nothing wrong. Ive talked to too many people in a similar situation with the exact same company though to be able to think that I am alone in this matter.
