I am here to teach her how to care for herself. That her beauty and brains and wickedly funny sense of humor will only get her so far, but that her hard work, determination, and belief in herself will take her the rest of the way. I am here to teach her the beauty, strength, and independence that comes from being her own person, making her own way, the terrifying exhilaration of having to rely completely on herself, and the warm gratitude of having people to come home to who love her no matter what. I am here to teach her to think for herself, to listen to her gut, to tell the truth, even when it hurts, and to always see the best in people until they give her reason not to. I am here to teach her the importance of an education, not just inside the classroom, but outside it as well, to always nurture her curiosity, and value the wisdom in others and herself. I am here to teach her that she has a voice, that others will not always speak for her, but that her opinions, ideas, dreams, and hopes matter if she will have the courage to voice them, and have the determination to see it through. I am here to teach her that she matters in this world, just as she is.
