I am in the last day of my stay in Katchumbala. Tomorrow I will leave with Tina in the direction of Rwanda where we wil visit a project that is also working on education. On our way we will visit 2 deaf schools in order to prepare a project for 6 deafschools in eastern Uganda. Looking back to the last period we have achieved a lot: - three networks of schools are implemented that will take responsibility for their own development - Oso Okwale will do the support for the schools in Soroti - The implementation of pupil centered materials in the schools has gone on; also thanks to the Dutch worldteachers. But the most important; together we have developed a clear target for the near future. We want to acieve that in the 16 schools that are part of the project within 3 yearsnone of teh children that leaves P3 for P4 is illiterate. We want to do that by: -adapting our materials for reading to the Ugandan curriculum. so they support the beasic teaching - putting our materials in a logical sequence that can be used by the schools - Encouraging schools to put their emphasis on this target -Perhaps giving them a sign f.i. "This is an illiteracy free school" - Supporting and training teachers - Help teachers to assess children that do not seam to pick up reading during the process and developing an approach for this children And of course when this works we want to scale up to a lot more schools
