I am infuriated by the misleading, disingenuous smear campaign - TopicsExpress

I am infuriated by the misleading, disingenuous smear campaign recently leveled against our neighbor Bill Cunningham. These negative ads are a desperate effort to tarnish his record; they are filled with lies designed to trick voters. Having worked closely with him for years, I know the real Bill Cunningham, so please allow me a moment to set the record straight. Bill Cunningham is a lifelong resident of our community. During his time in office, he has repeatedly voted to cut his own pay. Last year, when legislators voted themselves a raise, Bill donated his salary increase to local charities. The suggestion that Bill receives multiple pensions is an outright lie. In Springfield, he actually sponsored legislation to extend insurance benefits for retired Chicago teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other City workers, saving each retiree as much as $1,100. That is one of many reasons why he has been endorsed by the AFL-CIO, Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Teachers Union and Illinois Association of Fire Fighters. Bill wrote legislation enabling law enforcement to impound vehicles of gang members who drive recklessly during funeral processions. This gave the police a valuable tool that protects our community from dangerous gang funerals. Cunningham also expanded education opportunities for our kids at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences by passing a law that increased the number of seats set aside for 19th Ward students. We need someone who understands our needs in Springfield. Dont be fooled by these pathetic attacks. Bill Cunningham has been a strong voice for us, now we need to stand with him; I hope you will join me in supporting Bill in the voting booth. Early voting is still available at Mt. Greenwood Park, 3721 W. 111th St., today - Saturday, November 1st until 5:00 pm, and tomorrow - Sunday, November 2nd from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Please make your voice heard this election. Thank you, Matthew J. OShea Alderman, 19th Ward
