I am just admiring the way the Member for Alotau and Minister for National Planning Hon. Charles Abel is moving to bring about development in various aspects around the Alotau District. He has manouvered very well and delivered many services in all areas simultaneously. Something i havent seen in our members of parliament from the Gulf Province. These are just a few of those many good things that are happening in the district as reported. He has faciliated funding for the extension of Santa Maria High School on Goodenough and extension to Alotau General Hospital (K10m) from PNG Incentive funds. Digicel towers have been installed in Suau area and soon to be installed in the hinterlands of Agaun will be 3G tower in addition to VSAT which was installed in 2009. He will even supply fones and flex cards for a start. Agaun already has hydro power project. Road maintenance is currently on from Sirisiri - Gwadagwada - Aragip -Danawan - Bonenau and then to Agaun. He is building jetties, the recent being the Suau Island jetty and then he moves onto Rabaraba and other areas. He is continuing to make cash donations to schools and churches for upgrading of their facilities like K50 thousand for Naura ward, K5 thousand each for the Anglican and Kwato churches. He has donated chainsaws to each ward to cut timber for community projects, his office supplies roofing iron, ridge cap and roofing nail. Recently he has presented roofing iron, ridge capping and nails to 202 settlers in the new kitava compound in town. He has donated household solar lamps, water tanks and supplied pig wire for 15 groups to do piggery projects. Maintenance of various feeder roads are on right now. He has provided oil palm seedings to all smallholder farmers with new blocks. The towns sporting arena the Alice Wedega park is being upgraded. The Alotau Youth centre is getting a new lease of life with a new staff house, a new dormitory and new spiritual centre. Foothpaths are being built around the town and he supports and officiates at various sports activities in the town and around the district almost every weekend. Recently he allocated K2m for customary land mobilisation program And finally his District Support Grant (DSG) and District Services Improvement Progran funds have been fully acquitted and he was one of the few (and I mean, few) MPs who presented the report early this year to the Office of Rural Development (ORD). Its happening all simulataneously... I wonder, I wonder, I wonder...why we are not able to see similar services delivered at similar pace with the same kind of funding.
