I am just so sad today. Im really going to miss Dad. The first time I ever remember meeting Gary, my sister and I were sitting on the floor playing. We looked up and he was standing in the doorway. He looked like a bear for a split second. He almost took up the whole trailer house bedroom doorway. He was standing there complete with his police uniform. We went outside and he turned on the sirens of his police car for us for a minute. I thought that was cool. We went through ups and downs for the few first years due to the confusion of a child trying to be loyal to her biological father. After our biological father passed away, I was able to start accepting my feelings for Gary. I respected him for the love he had for my mother and us. I respected him because he wanted us to be fair and honest in any of our dealings with others. I respected him because although he didnt have to, he chose to be our dad. There are so many reasons I respected him and that made it easier to develop a friendship with him and to learn that I was blessed and lucky enough to have another man I can call Dad. I would share my memories but there are just so many. I will miss Dad at our family get-togethers and on our card or game nights. He always had a way of making me smile or laugh. I will miss the way he let my children climb onto his lap and just love on him and rock with him, it meant so much to them too. He had great hugs and was the best Grandpa. I appreciate the time that the Good Lord gave me with this man as my Dad!
