I am not quick to criticize the social practices of others, - TopicsExpress

I am not quick to criticize the social practices of others, particularly when that culture practice or ideology differs largely from the one I have come to understand since birth. I do however recognize that this is a fringe social group that dose not reflect the larger surrounding community. None the less I cannot comment as to the reasons this subculture has come into existence nor the structures that keep it in place. I try to avoid commentary in conversations that may posit my dialogue as morally superior, sanctimonious, self-righteous, or elevate my opinion as the only correct voice in a complex topic. In this instance however, I feel ethically obligated to take a stance and position and to elevate this issue into public consciousness. It took a while for me to process the content of this video in attempts to respond responsibly. Here it is: It is not a ridiculous concept that many humans need and enjoy the consummation of meat. The ability to obtain wholesome and accessible food is a great concern for many in our world. The argument can be made that eating dog meat is no different than eating other types of meat (i.e. fish, chicken, etc...). I find this argument structurally flawed for a few reasons: 1) the domestication process of canines (stemming over thousands of years) has elevated their social position in relation to humanity as both friend and ally. 2) This elevation has holds inherit within itself a globally unspoken but relatively understood contract and equilibrium between humanity and the canine race. 3) to violate this contract is to violate a social trust in which we have inherited, assumed, cultivated, and benefited from throughout our human history (and our own evolution). It is in this regard that the consummation, poaching, and ill treatment of canines is particularly heinous. By doing so we violate not only the inherent rights (for which I believe dogs have been awarded) but the very essence our humanity. The atrocitys in which we impose upon the others (in this instance canines) is particularly troublesome and in my opinion directly harmful to our own greater humanity. This violation devolves the human race and re-instills a predatory and opportunistic behaviour we strive to transcend. I recognize that this topic is not black and white. There is obviously a reason(s) that this market exists, and one in which this video made no effort to touch upon. What is unacceptable however is the methods and treatment of living organisms given the reasons stated previously. I dont expect anyone to read this rant in full, but I felt obligated to post it anyways.
