I am not too good at calculations. Can somebody help me convert ten billion dollars ($10b) into naira. That is the amount of investments the Ogun State Commissioner for Commerce, Bimbo Ashiru claimed just now on Channels Television that they have attracted into the state in the last three years. Now, the isues: $10b is equivalent of one trillion, six hundred and fifty billion naira (N1.650 trillion). That is a third of Nigerias budget for a year. If N1. 650 trillion should move into a states economy, I think it will not be out of place to ask the Ibikunle led government in what area are these investments. What are the names of the company? What line of businesses are they into? When were their C of Os signed? Who signed them? Is there really anything on ground by way of employment and prosperity of the people to support this claim that such huge amount of investments moved into Ogun State in the past three years? Can the government publish its receipts on ground rent and taxes (PAYE) of workers in all these new companies to support the claims. At least Ogun State should be richer by now with such huge investments.
