I am not understanding this backlash towards movies about slavery. I challenge everybody to look at the black movie landscape in the last ten years and list the movies made about slavery vs. made movies or black rom coms. Its not even close. Bottom line is 12 years a slave was an excellent movie irrespective of the subject matter. If you want to see quality black movies about contemporary issues, how about supporting them: Middle of Nowhere, I will follow, Mother of George, Wolf, Night Catches Us(sort of), American Promise, etc. In my opinion seeing different versions of think like a man every three months or another tyler perry movie is just as bad as movies about maids and butlers. smh.
