I am posting this for Pearl. she knows I am doing it. She is fed up. She has loads of facebook friends but as she has both an acquired brain injury and damaged peripheral vision, reading is a long and ardous task so general facebook chat usually requires me to help (not ideal), ditto texting. Because she isnt accessing the usual teenage networks and all her old schoolfriends are now moving on, she has been left behind. Everybody loves Pearl, people are always happy to see her but she is really feeling lonely. She doesnt want some kind of referral to a health or social care professionally run group (not that there is one), she doesnt want to join a religious or lifestyle group, - she just wants to meet up, preferably of an evening, preferably in a pub, with people who are not ancient, who she can relate to & have a laugh with, preferably who also have a physical disability and/or acquired brain injury ( other people with a disability may have more in common with her BUT we arent talking a club here - anyone non disabled who fancies catching up with her would be welcome). She doesnt want to form a committee, she doesnt want to attend meetings, she doesnt want advice on her rights, she just wants a decent night out. There is no informal disability social group round here, we tried Headway but there were no younger people attending locally, she was referred to the gym - again, no one near her age. There MUST be young people out there in a similar situation so where are they and how are they managing socially? So HERES THE REQUEST - if you know someone aged....18 to ?25 (maybe a bit more?), who has a physical disability and/or acquired brain injury who fancies a regular meet up in a pub in Carmarthen (or nearby, not Cardiff - just too far) just for a laugh - not organised or facilitated by a professional, carer or parent please pass on my info to them and ask them to DM me. Even if you dont know anyone can you ask your friends if they do? Also ideas for decent pubs too? (Witherspoons good for access and toilets), maybe a week night rather than weekend chaos. Thanks - looking forward to replies.
