I am reading Erasing Hell by Francis Chan. I will let you know - TopicsExpress

I am reading Erasing Hell by Francis Chan. I will let you know what I think when I am done but so far I disagree with him on two counts. 1. Inclusion does not and never did erase hell, either in this life or the next they just dont describe it the same, and they dont describe it as eternal. In fact I would say that evangelicalism erases the hell in this life by postponing it till after death. Second, Gehenna, which is the word most translated as Hell in the NT is an actual valley outside the city where they burned trash and the fires were kept going. So far, Chan uses the words hell and Gehenna as if this distinction did not exist. When people say Jesus talks more about hell than heaven, no He doesnt. He talks about Gehenna and what it represents to them historically and does not talk about hell even once. You can get on a plane and go visit Gehenna today. 70 years after Jesus died all of Jerusalem was brutally destroyed and leveled and much of what He fortold was about that event. There are other words ranslated as hell in the NT which mean different things and to not know what they are or what they mean is to choose ignorance. Chan believes his grandmother is in hell eternally and I think that is very very sad.
