I am really feeling down tonight. When I had Aaliyah at speech on Thursday I learned she may have another issue to deal with. She may have SPD ( sensory processing disorder). I came home and did some research. This is something that can be dealt with by getting her OT and working with her. This could be much worse because 40% of deaf children also have another disability...and SPD has not been classified as a disability. I am going to make some calls in the morning to see if she needs otologist or pediatrician for a diagnosis. There has to be a diagnosis for her to receive therapy. In order for her to progress with speech she will need OT. She has speech at Therapeutic Interventions and it is a wonderful facility! They also have OTs there, so her therapists can work together and be on the same page. Please remember Aaliyah in your prayers asking that we are able to correctly identify the problem in order for her to get started on whatever therapy she may need!
