I am running for City Council, Position #6 for the City of Oak Harbor. Oak Harbor, our gem by the sea, is a wonderful city to raise a family and a beautiful place to visit. I am running for City Council because I have a strong desire to be actively involved in the coming issues that will guide our future and guarantee Oak Harbor’s position as Whidbey Island’s premier waterfront community. My background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics/Business and Master of Arts degree in Management. We have had ties to Oak Harbor ever since through her mother, Eve Oliver. We raised four wonderful children and each attended school in the Oak Harbor School system. I also have three grandchildren and a great granddaughter. After retiring from the Navy my family and I lived in Park City, UT for three years where I worked in the hospitality/tourism industry before returning to Oak Harbor in 1998 where I had a career in the property development, management and the construction industry. My experience base includes a broad range of areas that include: • Leadership and management skills • Communication and people skills • Problem solver • Contract management • Property management • Code interpretation and inspections • Water company manager • International negotiations • Program management • Security, safety and administrative program development/management I am proudly and actively involved in our community: • Oak Harbor Arts Commission • Planning and management committee of the North Whidbey Community Harvest (free Thanksgiving dinner at the Elks Lodge) for the past 10 years • Member of the organizing committee for the Free Fidalgo Avenue Block Party and Pig Roast • Assist with Driftwood Day since its inception • Member of the executive board and newsletter editor for Oak Harbor Area Council of the Navy League • Member of the organizing committee for the St. Patrick’s Day parade and festivities • Volunteer to assist with the annual Military Appreciation Picnic. As an elected official my allegiance is to you the citizens of Oak Harbor and it is my duty and commitment to study the issues and make solid, rational decisions that are in the best interest of Oak Harbor, our community.
