I went to the Senate floor today to discuss my ongoing, bipartisan effort with Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) to increase federal funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to $4.7 billion. LIHEAP is an important program for low-income families, seniors, and disabled individuals in Rhode Island and across the country, and we must ensure the program is adequately funded so all those in need can access this critical assistance. Americans should not have to choose between paying their energy bills and refilling their medications, especially in the cold winter months.
