I am seeing a lot of posts from some fairly popular preachers wherein positive messages are being put forth. Things like: Just ask Him for the desires of your heart and He will deliver! Or: If you want to live the abundant life you just have to believe that God wants the very best for you and ask. In my limited understanding of God and His word, we are His children and as our Father, He wants only the very best for us. That said, what we perceive as His will and what His actual will might be are often two very different things. You see, Gods will for us may not look like what we, in our limited capacity to understand, might view as good. Sometimes His will for us is confusing and scary. Its confounding and doesnt always make much sense to us. Occasionally its a gimme. We ask that so and so be healed of some awful illness and lo and behold: they get better. Other times we ask and that person suffers and dies. What then? Are we to believe that God somehow sanctioned that suffering? That He was indifferent to our pleas? That He ignored our prayers? No. He is a loving God that knows our pain and suffering. He is also the very author of the universe and His ways are higher than ours. He sees the entire picture. The whole tapestry of humankind. I pray tonight that if you are reading this, that you would go boldly before His throne with confidence and lay your troubles down at His feet. I pray that you would rest in the knowledge that He knows and that He cares and that He has a plan. A perfect plan. And that you would know that despite what you might see and perceive that He loves you and whatever He is doing is good and just and for our benefit. Be still and know that He is God.
