I am sharing this post from a good friend of mine. Every day she writes about the woeful state of our government, and I agree with what she says but she writes so much more eloquently than me! You know how I carry on about this government day in, day out? Well scrap everything I said. They are far, far worse than even I could imagine. And why? Because they have just signed off on the destruction and decimation of one of the most beautiful places on the planet: The Great Barrier Reef. 4 Corners last night completely broke my heart. I have been tossing and turning all night, fretting over the footage that was shown; that perfect, pristine coral wonderland being systematically destroyed by the dumping of dredging waste. 4 Corners interviewed a whole swathe of people to present various views and it was very telling. The retired coral reef expert of 40 years standing with tears in his eyes, lamenting the destruction of this natural wonder of the world. Hunt, the Minster for the Environment, using bizarre Abbottspeak to say not very much at all. The scientists working for the Reef Authority who originally were against any coal port expansion on the grounds it would sound the death knell for the Reef, suddenly doing an about face and giving it the green light. The fisherman showing the fish hed caught with bloated red eyes and weird, red scales, unlike anything hed seen before. I am so utterly outraged and speechless that this is going on underneath our noses. This government is selling off everything that belongs to the Australian people, blatantly doing corrupt deals with mining companies that will not benefit Australians in any way, shape or form. Wake up Australia! Once its gone, its gone! And for what? To make a gaggle of mining billionaires even richer. I was talking to my boyfriend afterwards and I said I am so angry, so completely outraged that Im prepared to put my money where my mouth is. Dont be surprised if you see a pregnant lady on the news, chained to an earth mover or out the front of Parliament House or up on the Reef at some point in the not too distant future. Im actually serious.
