I am so touched by your most positive thoughts in regard to the luxating patella in Codys right rear knee and tilted pelvis which were detected by the massage therapist, Debbie Erb, and confirmed by the on-site vet, Lisa Poquette, at the Central Point, OR, agility trials 1-1/2 weeks ago. Today, Cody had a thorough examination and evaluation in Mill Valley by Dr. Andrew Sams, an orthopedic surgeon, highly recommended by our agility trainers and colleagues. Dr. Sams confirmed the luxating patella in Codys right knee which he said is out of the groove more than its in. He also detected a luxating patella in Codys left rear knee. Cody exhibited no pain or limping during the examination, and Dr. Sams suspects Cody has learned to compensate for this for a long time. His rear legs were somewhat stiff, but there was no overt lameness. His neck, back and lower back showed no uncomfortable spots. For now, Dr. Sams recommends no treatment and careful monitoring. Cody is to have only leash walking for 3 weeks to allow the soft tissue to heal. After that, while we are on our 2-month RV trip back East, we are to walk him as long as he wants and ease Cody back into running. When we return from that trip, Dr. Sams said, Let Cody go back to being a dog. We are exhausted after a very long day, but we rest tonight believing our little guy will be back, as happy and playful as ever, relatively soon. NItey nite, dear friends....
