I am thankful for the ability to make split-second - TopicsExpress

I am thankful for the ability to make split-second decisions. Such was the case last evening, at 6pm. Darkness had fallen to the state after dusk when there is a bit of adjusting of the eye. I was travelling west on Camelback, in the center of three lanes in this direction:; 6 lanes total. Nearing the Biltmore, speed limit 30-35mph I caught side of a dog. It appeared as though the Yellow Labrador was entering the road. I looked away from the dog to note it had a handler and they were already in the right most lane. It was then I realized this was a Guide Dog and a blind man. Instantaneously, I juggled between blowing the horn and frightening them or not. Then I realized that to blow the horn was the right thing to do. I gently tap tapped my horn only to see the man rear up and (I dont read lips well, but this time I did!) exclaim, Oh shit! I was, by this time, ahead of him. I looked back to learn their whereabouts but could not see. I did not hear other horns blow or the screech of tires so I am hopeful that they made it safely to the curb and onto the sidewalk. In an instant, at least three lives were changed. Theirs and mine. Possibly more had I not seen this dog and this man. I am still a bit in bewilderment today. Perhaps the reason for my hypersensitivity. What if?? I chase those thoughts away for they do not serve me. Yet, I wonder my lesson in this. It is there, I know this. .
