I am using this medium to make a public complaint about Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA). I have no problem with the Authority sending out a Task Force to enforce the payment of fees as stipulated by Enugu State Government. However, I take exception to: 1. Harassment of businesses that have paid the said fees from the beginning of the year and who have a waste bucket which they bought from a previous administration and which is still in good shape. 2. The herding of the owners/employees of the businesses as though they are goats all in the name of enforcing the law. ESWAMA Task Force officials operated on Ogui Road today and harassed my staff even though they showed them our receipts for payment of the appropriate fees not only for 2014 but for previous years. Having no other issue to raise, they asked for our waste bucket. My staff showed it to them. The ESWAMA officials claimed that this bucket which was clean and in good condition was not acceptable. According to them we had bought the said bucket when their authority was ENSEPA. Now that they are ESWAMA they insisted that we must pay N6,500 for a new waste bucket that we dont need. Government and its agencies should be providing an enabling environment for businesses to operate not adding to the challenges they are already facing. Small business operators like me, provide the much needed jobs for our young people because we care. Government owes us the duty of restraining its officials from oppressing us in this manner.
