I am very bitter, angry, frustrated … December a month for celebration people in my motherland Sierra Leone are secluded from celebrating and performing any tradition or ritual accustomed to this month, an ideology that was sold to us by the our colonial master to disguise the brutal tracks of slave trade. EBOLA!!! You have caused one of the biggest havocs in my land and crumbled my world. I am not surprised our colonial master has clearly sent a firm message that the situation is ours to deal with, not their cup of tea, by not allowing any direct commercial flights to and from Sierra Leone entering the United Kingdom. I am now starting to wonder if not for international pressure and shame where will our once reliable colonial master be? Again why should I reprimand them, when our politicians are busy politicising the situation. I can still vividly remember a video clip I watched online when the EBOLA outbreak started in Guinea our minister Khan boasting that Sierra Leone is equipped to deal with any out break, “ There are 10 ambulances in place, Doctors are …”. What a mockery? Can someone sensible please tell me how a nation with over five million people survives with ten ambulances? Sierra Leone is again at the forefront of local and international media organisations making headlines for the wrong reasons. This opens old wounds that reminds me of my childhood days which was over shadowed by the long civil war that forced me to be glued to an old battered trident radio tuned to the BBC even thought I was at war with my brain trying to interpret what they are reporting. Sierra Leoneans!!! Could you please adhere to simply instructions to prevent the spread of the disease, the evidence is clear, the damage is severe this disease (EBOLA) is causing to our nation.
