I am very happy for ordering Dr.Abbas H.Gnamo’s new book from Amazon : Conquest and Resistance in the Ethiopian Empire: 1880-1974: The Case of the Arsi Oromo. I am so excited and can’t wait until I read this book, which has been waited for so long. I had an opportunity to read some of Dr.Abbas’s research publications on The Journal Of Oromo Studies. His pieces of writing about our fallen heroes at the battle of Annole and their tenacious resistance against Minilik invasion despite their obsolete weaponry were astonishing and it has served to inculcate a sense of pride in being Oromo. I believe this particular book is a timely published and compelling to read because it came out by the time denial of the past atrocity against Oromo and Southern nation by Minilik II has become a ubiquitous political and psychological phenomenon of Abyssinian elites and scholars. On the book signing ceremony, March 9, 2014 Dr. Mohammed Hassan a renowned Oromo historian gave his testimony that this book was based on meticulous research to uncover the truth. We should honor and support our scholars and authors by purchasing their books and reading it. All their efforts are for construction of a proud, pure, and honorable history and civilization that Abyssinian has been trying to distort and destroy. Our intellectual and scholars challenge the Abyssinian’s repudiation of Oromo’s historical suffering in the empire through their rigorous research. The spirit of our fallen hero will never rest in their grave until their stories are told. Remembering and telling the truth about horrible event in the past ultimately pave way for justice and reconciliation. I want to quote the saying of Desmond Tutu, “Forgiving is not forgetting, it is actually remembering-remembering and not using your right to hit back. It is a second chance for a new beginning. And the remembering part is particularly important, especially if you don’t want to repeat what happened” I am very grateful to Dr.Abbas for his effort in producing this book and I am looking forward to reading it and reflect upon it.
