I am very happy to announce that the American Sambo Association has been invited (and we have gladly accepted) to host a Freestyle Sambo tournament as part of the 2014 Grapplers Quest Olympics in Liverpool, New York on Sunday, October 12th. grapplersquest/events/2014-grapplers-quest-olympics-presented-pacific-health-club What many people may not realize is the long friendship the ASA has had with Brian Cimins and GQ. When the ASA was a budding organization back in 2003, Brian supported and sponsored our early events and really helped us get off the ground with regard to building a competition venue. It is great to be back working together at this event eleven years on! I also happened to be a competitor at Brians very first Grapplers Quest ;) A big thank you goes to Brian for bringing us on board for this event. We hope to enrich the already high quality expected at all GQ events. The plan is to have 8 man A division tournaments (pre-registration only) in the 62kg (136.4lbs), 68kg (149.6lbs), 74kg (162.8lbs), 82kg (180.4lbs), 90kg (198lbs), 100kg (220lbs) & 100+kg (220-250lbs). Womens division weight classes will be decided via the madison system. I will also reach out to several coaches to build an invitational youth division. I should have an event website up by the end of the weekend. All tournaments will be filled on a first come first serve basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for all of the ASAs top ranked sambists to take part in an event like no other. The tentative schedule will be: 7 - 9:30am - Check-in & weigh in 10am - Rules meeting 10:30am - Tournament begins Hotel information is forthcoming and will be post on the Grapplers Quest website as well as our event website. The entire Olympics weekend will be jam packed with amateur MMA, amateur & pro grappling events and more. So, I encourage everyone to come for the entire weekend!
