I am watching all the posts from people grieving Robin Williams. Im grieving, too. Im glad one good thing is coming out of this...People are starting to wake up. People are starting to realize that telling someone with mental illness (like myself) to pull up your big girl/boy panties suck it up you have a choice...its up to you...that it is a serious disease/illness & can be debilitating. I reflect back on people that said some of those things to me, in some of my darkest moments & think you have no idea how a kind word, instead of a harsh word, would have helped me more....or, better yet, when overwhelmed, & reaching out I faced stone silence from some I thought had huge hearts that would understand & show compassion or empathy....its not just lonely at the top....its lonely in the middle & at the bottom too. While your callous words or lack there of did not break me, as Im already broken, they did open my eyes. If our relationship changed, mayhap its because I felt ever more isolated & alienated. Be careful with your words...the tongue is more mightier than the sword, & silence is a death blow.
