I apologize in advance for the vitriol in my Korra V-log. My only defense is: animation is an underappreciated art form. Too often people assume its the domain of toddlers and school-aged kids on sugar highs. Its not, despite Nicks insistence that the under-13 crowd HAS to be their only market. It can be so much more. So many shows on other networks, from Disney (Gargoyles) to WB (Batman), have more than proven that. So many motion pictures have. And yet Ive watched in my lifetime as glorious 2D animation has slowly gone the way of the Dodo. So to see a full spectrum aged 2D animated show get the shaft by network execs like Korra has... particularly in a really good season? Just... URGH. Maybe I went overboard. Maybe I didnt. But I felt Korra deserved better than to have the creators constantly hosed like this. In the middle of a great story arc, they had to ditch a FULL episode? And were pigeon holed into a clip show (admittedly, as well done as humanly possible)? Come on. I wonder what great ideas couldve been fleshed out further in that missing 24 minutes? Rumor has it that Dreamworks has tapped the same animation studio that did Korra (Studio Mir) to do a 2D animated show. I hope that sticks. And I do hope it stays 2D. Not only for South Koreas industry -- which has become an animation powerhouse lately -- but for us. Cause as a fun as 3D animation can be, it should never be the only game in town. And we deserve more than a network that cant think beyond the ten-year old level. Or perhaps J.K. Rowling should never have aged her characters... and kept Potter perpetually ten? I could be wrong.
