I awaken full of vigor and enthusiasm on this day. Today is my anniversary and it is a bittersweet one, at that. I am a VERY proud US Marine. Today, 20 yrs ago, I was 17yrs young, my best friend Will Ballard and I stepped onto the Yellow Footprints at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA for a journey that would shape my entire life. I served a faithful and hard 8yrs of active duty service that brought me truly the best of times and the worst of times. Had I stayed in the Corps, today would be my 1st day as a retired man...at 37yrs old. I kick myself in the ass many a day for not sticking in there because hindsight truly is 20/20 but God knew better. I am supremely grateful for every day that I can proudly say that I earned the title, Marine. It is ALWAYS earned, NEVER given! I can say that I have taken the intangible lessons that I have learned from the military and kept them for a lifetime. Ive met, traveled with, served with, recruited, and found the bond brotherhood with soooo many great people. Whether our time together has been good, bad, ugly, and/or indifferent. ..each of you have impacted my life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Less than 1% of the American population has donned the uniform. I salute every person that has earned our Esprit de Corps. Thank You Father for the blessings and respects afforded to me and I thank You for 20 years as a United States MARINE! Words cannot truly express my feelings or what I feel in my heart today. Facebook doesnt have enough room for me to type out how proud that I am and how much I wished Id stayed in. Its almost impossible to convey my heartfelt emotion that this bittersweet day means to me. #SemperFidelis #GetSome #MOS7222 #MOS8411 #E-5/SgtOfMarines
