I believe very deeply what Paul Washer is saying here. I have been trying, as best I know how, to tell our church for years that the modernized view of American Christianity is completely unbiblical. If we are home-schoolers, we have our view of a white picket fence home, or our little homestead, and our solemn little family which is protected from the world and everything is nice. If we are Christian schoolers, we travel to our kids sports and enjoy our youth groups and childrens ministries ... and everything is nice. If we are Christians and our children attend public school, it is like the other but we may be encouraged that we have a greater impact on the world around us. But regardless, most all think life will turn out good for us because we follow Jesus. And by that we mean it to be pleasant and blessed with prosperity. None of this is prophesied in the Scriptures. It is quite different from that. For about 50 years now the modern American Christian culture has sat back and enjoyed life while our culture and world has changed and turned at increasing speed. The church (as a whole) has drifted away from Christ and not toward Him. Today the vast majority of those who call themselves Christian have never read through the Bible even once. The are ignorant of orthodox Christian doctrines and have no real Biblical convictions. They have never been taught to read and study the Scriptures so their opinions and views are now based upon cultural pressures and trends. Those who genuinely love Christ enough to die for Him, those who read, study and cherish the Scriptures, those who seek to live in the filling of the Holy Spirit, those who pursue holy and Godly lives and those who dare to stand against evil and the lusts of this world ... will be hated and persecuted as Mr. Washer describes. Some, see this as bad news. And if we do, it is a clear sign we have misunderstood Biblical Christianity from the beginning. Following Christ is not about us ... but about His Glory. He has always been exalted and glorified through the suffering of His followers. The Apostles, and early church followers, considered it an honor and privilege to suffer and die for Christ. How about us?
