I boarded a train from Bangalore in the late evening hours on Dec - TopicsExpress

I boarded a train from Bangalore in the late evening hours on Dec 31 to reach Delhi today. So may friends, well wishers and nears and dears wished me Happy New Year through SMSs, whatsapp and whatever communication means they could use. I reciprocated all of them with the same zeal and enthusiasm. Then a thought cropped up my mind. The new year should begin with more cheerfulness, more enthusiasm and there should be joyful lovely surroundings all around. During this time, the earth trembs with cold wave, dense fog envelopes the skies causing immense inconvenience to passengers travelling by air, rail or road. Nature seems hapless in these bad weather conditions. There is no colour, no enthusiasm. Everybody likes to be in his/her quilt to save oneself from extreme cold. Why dont we wait for our own New Year ? The Hindu year that starts on the first Navratra has all features in it. During this period of the year, one find Nature at its peak. There is no weather vagaries, Nature showers its blessing all over. A variety of flowers blossom all around. People like to come out of their homes to enjoy. Why cannot we celebrate the occasion with a lot of happiness and gusto during that part of the year when our own New Year begins. We Indians have forgotten our glorious past and have become slave to western culture and celebrate English year forgetting our own year falling just a couple of months later.
