I call my writing dark comedy. Largely because comedy is what we do to survive the darkness. My characters have gone through horrific trauma and still have tragic moments to cope with They get through the day by clinging to each other, by laughing, and helping each other laugh. When I was growing up, my grandmother would watch Grand Ole Opry and HeeHaw. Through her I discovered Johnny Cash, who I thought of as one of the gothest of the goth - just born on the country side of the aisle. Later in his life, I think he figured that out as he collaborated with folks across the aisle like Nine Inch Nails. This tune is hard to listen to, especially when you realize he had just lost his wife a few months earlier. He died not too long after this.
