I called a cab to take me to via rail, as taking the bus with all my stuff is maddening, and my cab driver was very friendly. He remembered me from a long time ago taking me to via rail when my mom had surgery a year ago. The minute I sat in his cab he said he remembered my smell and asked if my moms surgery went ok. Hes a philosopher and talker and we yapped the whole way here. However when we got here, and I tried to pay him he refused to take my money. He said I was beautiful and made his car smell like heaven and it was his honour. I told him this was his job, his livelihood and he couldnt just give free rides. I made him take the fare. He got out and helped me with my bags and even shook my hand. Would you have taken the free ride? As a woman, Im never comfortable taking things for free, Ive had many of these experiences. I dont understand it bc Im not some hot goddess who men and woman fall at the feet of lol but I smile a lot, Im friendly and Ive noticed in life those things make me more approachable than being gorgeous. People offer me things, comp me for things and are generally awesome to me lol but when it comes to this I feel uncomfortable... Im curious, A/ if this happens to others and B/ what the right thing to do is and C/ is accepting things like that leading men on? I feel comfortable paying my way, honestly and without question. Thoughts?
