I called my Mom last night and she was feeling warmly reflective. You see, 65 years ago on July 30, 1949, my Dad quietly returned to the United States after serving 2 1/2 years in the Army Air Force stationed in Yokohama, Japan. That night, as my Mom finished her nursing shift at Salem City Hospital, Dad was in the waiting room to surprise her. Surprise indeed!!! It didnt take long for him to propose and soon they were married and off to his next military assignment, eventually leading to Tennessee where I was born. On August 16, my folks would have celebrated 65 years of marriage.
