I came across a newspaper article about those youngsters who took pictures on some graves in the Saint Jean cemetery and posted them online. Those pictures have left Catholics, apparently, in such a state of choc that the Catholic Diocese or whatever they call themselves is apparently urging for punishment. Now, I fail understand this decision. If I were at the head of a congregation that claimed to go by Jesus teachings and example, I would want to meet with these kids, not to hurt them, not to punish them, but to try to find out why they middle fingered the cross or why they did what they did. It would be clear to me that they dont have a clue about my god. I would try to introduce them not only through words but example that which my god teaches, that is Let the one who has never sinned cast the first stone and Turn the other cheek, and Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be the children of your father in heaven. I wouldnt want to punish them. What is that gonna do? Teach them a lesson? I think it might just reinforce their belief that God and the people who claim to follow that supposedly merciful god are full of shit. I would want to introduce them to my god and show them that they might have gotten it wrong. And who knows what would happen then if Christians chose to show compassion as their god did and taught them to rather than seek revenge and punishment? As the saying goes, You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.
