I can pretend that Israel and the US are not the biggest impediments to mid east and world peace, and that Israel doesnt oppress and operate a system of Apartheid against the Palestinian people. I can pretend that Iran hasnt attacked another country in over 300 years, and that pursuing nuclear energy for peaceful means is somehow a threat to world peace. I can pretend that America is actually fighting for something that matters in the so-called war on terror. I can pretend that nothing military or law enforcement ever does is wrong, and that criticizing these agencies in any way shape or form is unpatriotic or anti authority. I can pretend that Im not concerned about the increasing militarization of law enforcement, or of the increasing likelihood that police departments will be used by the government to crack down on dissenters en masse in the future. I can pretend that Its a-OK to blame the poor for their situation no matter what, even as the income gap between the richest and poorest continues to grow and is currently at an all time high. I can pretend that theres nothing wrong with the richest 300 Americans having more money than the lowest 150 million combined, Ill just praise it as an example of the free market in action. I can pretend that Its OK that our tax dollars go towards killing innocent people overseas, that Its OK for the President to authorize drone strikes that have killed thousands of innocents. I can pretend that Its OK that only five out of 535 members of Congress cared enough to hear the testimony of the family of a grandmother in Pakistan who was killed by a drone strike. I can pretend that the tax funded murder of over a million Iraqis is OK. I can pretend that Its OK to turn a blind eye as Iraq continues to descend into all out chaos as a result of the legacy of our destruction of that nation. I can pretend that we are hated by the rest of the world simply because of our freedom and prosperity, and not because of this governments constant interfering in other nations affairs, propping of brutal dictators, and overthrowing of democratically elected governments throughout the world. I can pretend, but it doesnt make any of it true.
