I can understand that some people think all this brouhaha over the SHS mascot is trivial, and in the grand scheme of things I would have to agree...but, what is at stake here is NOT a name or artwork, it is a TRADITION. A tradition that is the fabric of anyone who has attended Saranac schools. In many cases (mine included) this tradition spans 3 to 4 generations. The Redskin name and logo has never meant anything but strength and honor to our school, its athletes, and the rich Native American history of our community. Offense should not be taken where none is intended. The Superintendent and Board should recognize the importance of this issue to our community and refuse to bow to inappropriate political pressures. The strength and honor of the Chief Logo should be mirrored in their actions. Yes, education and curriculum are the most important qualities of our school system, but when alumni leave and dispurse, it is the Redskin pride that binds us all together.
