I cant believe its been 9 years since I wrote my first screenplay, Billy Joels Car. I had added a scene in Homage to The Thomas Crown Affair. The scene went like this: The main character, a struggling, one-of-a-kind - musical genius, Rocco, rides his trusty scooter to his friends house who resides in Bayville, to tell him that hes finally figured out how to make it in show business after decades of fruitless disappointments. Cue: Windmills of Your Mind - While riding to his friends house, an ominous shadow is cast overhead of the exact glider Steve McQueen used in The Thomas Crown Affair. Montage shots of Rocco riding are interloped with shots of Todd flying his glider, watching, stalking an unwitting Rocco. The Windmills of Your Mind is the musical backdrop of this musical montage. It is Roccos affluent enemy flying the glider overhead who is the one who has led Rocco into thinking hes going to finally make it, after so many years of trying. This scene was dropped from the final draft that I wrote. As a side note; Billy Joels Car was optioned and even a rewrite was written by a writer, but the deal fell through do to creative differences.
