I can’t believe your fixin’ to turn 21 in a few short hours. Happy 21’st birthday Tara Maria. For your Mom and I it’s so hard to believe - it came so fast. It seems like just yesterday we brought you home from St. Ann’s. I knew you would be successful in life the minute you were born. You were such a good baby and child growing up, well behaved and no tantrums ever (well your momma says there was one time in Target but I don’t believe it :) And then through all of your teen years you never, ever once, misbehaved or displayed or brought teenage angst - ever! Lord knows you had an excuse to. You were dealt a tough hand growing up but yet you were strong, tough, responsible and persevered. I realize that there were things that most girls could talk to their mom’s about that you couldn’t do while growing up… and I’m sure that you didn’t want to tell me about those things (even though I asked ) And yet you figured it out all on your own. As far as education? We stressed it so much, but it was up to you – no excuses we told you - it’s up to you – what quality of life do you want to live? We left it up to you. No one can do it for you but yourself. You can think short term? Or you can think long term? And then…We never had to get you up in the morning…we never had to make you do your homework, or get cleaned up or walk out to the school bus in the dark. … Honor Roll every grading period. So here you are, you’re 21 and well on your way to a Bachelor’s degree from OU, and also having a good job and career track already! No one did it for you – you did it all by yourself and it was damn hard I know… Now? The world is your oyster. I can now sleep well at night knowing your future is bright, positive and fruitful! You have grown up to be a smart, caring, hardworking, beautiful young lady. So I reckon this marks the end of my doting on you in public (much to your and others relief lol!) But I just want you to know…. you’ll always be my baby girl… I’m so proud to be your Father. Yo te amo mija con todo mi corazon. Happy Birthday.
