"I commend Jeff McCloy in the article (Reach for the sky 18/7) for stating the facts about our city and truly what is holding back its development. Jeff has been criticised in this article, because he is a “developer” however crucial to being a successful developer one has to know and fully understand their marketplace and consumers. There has been one crucial ingredient that has slowed the change, the upgrading and the growth in Newcastle and that is “people”. There are large amounts of people who want to live in our City, people from all sectors, young professionals, empty nesters, retirees, tenants, students and so the list goes on, however the only way this can be done is to create more affordable dwellings, and this is what Jeff McCloy eludes to. Higher densities mean greater yields, lower costs and the delivery of more affordable product. Our city will only die from the inside out without focus on change and people have to be the focus. The late Colin Chapman visualised this in a Chamber of Commerce meeting some 20 years ago and nothing has changed. Bring people back into the city and the city will accordingly grow, thrive and attract further investment." - Wayne Stewart
